Assistive Technology in Education

Currently there is one training and evaluation assistive technology team for the entire Austin Independent School District. To ensure that the ATSTAR Project reaches its target outcomes, it will plan to train approximately 240 educators to benefit a minimum of 1708 public school students as well as 55 students in attendance at private schools in the Austin Area..Click here to go to main navigation or continue on

Austin ISD TIE 4: ATSTAR PRIVATE SCHOOL AGREEMENT Austin Harvard School / Mountain Shadows Academy

Ensuring that the content of the ATSTAR training modules reflects best practices in the field of Assistive Technology is key to the success of the ATSTAR project. Austin Harvard School and Mountain Shadows Academy specialize in intervention strategies for students with learning difficulties, bi-polar disorder, ADHD, dyslexia, and auditory processing disorders. Their roles and responsibilities in the ATSTAR project are as follows:

1.Attend all monthly ATSTAR advisory board meetings, as listed below:

Attendance will be tracked through sign-in sheets. If the designated representative from each of the private schools is not able to attend an advisory board meeting, he or she will inform the ATSTAR Project Director in advance via e-mail and/or will send another designee. 2. Each private school will designate 2 staff members to attend all ATSTAR planning and preparation sessions beginning with the Disabilities Awareness session that was held on 9/19/2000. The designated private school staff members will be paid $65.00 for each 3-hour session and $125.00 for each 6-hour session. The private schools are responsible for invoicing the Austin Independent School District for payment of the time spent by their staff in CATR planning and preparation sessions. Invoicing must be made monthly.

3.Complete 9 hours of planning and preparation with their designated staff members about their respective organizations' processes and procedures related to addressing Assistive Technology.

4.As requested by AISD's ATSTAR personnel, Austin Harvard School and Mountain Shadows Academy will attend meetings of the ATSTAR design team that will be formed to complete the production of the CD-ROM materials. Attendance will be tracked through sign-in sheets.

5.As requested by AISD's ATSTAR personnel, Austin Harvard School and Mountain Shadows Academy will attend meetings of the ATSTAR design team that will be formed to complete the design and maintenance of the ATSTAR web site. 6.Each of the private schools will host 3 open houses, 3 parent training sessions, and 2 information sessions at their facilities and provide AISD's ATSTAR personnel with sign-in sheets, handouts, advertisement, and any other documentation of the events.

7.Each of the private schools will participate in the first Information Session to be held at Bedichek Middle School on October 3, 2000. Both Austin Harvard School and Mountain Shadows Academy will host exhibits at the first Information Session and have personnel present to answer questions about their programs.

8.Assist with the training of the Campus Assistive Technology Representatives on issues related to instructional intervention strategies.

9.Contribute to the development of training materials to be used in the training of Member AISD Campus Assistive Technology Representatives and personnel from Austin Harvard School and Mountain Shadows Academy by providing Internet Resources, print materials, and other training materials deemed appropriate for the designated training.

10.Austin Harvard School and Mountain Shadows Academy will work in conjunction with other grant members to develop the training timeline, content, and training delivery as determined by the Advisory Board.

11.Austin Harvard School and Mountain Shadows Academy will directly assist with a maximum of 4 weekend training sessions to be held between September 2000 and August 2001. These training sessions will not exceed 6 hours per session..Click here to go to main navigation or continue on

During the course of the grant, the Austin Independent School District will provide Austin Harvard School and Mountain Shadows Academy:

1. One tool kit, the contents of which are attached to this document.

2. Training for their designated personnel equivalent to that which will be provided to AISD's Campus Assistive Technology Representatives.

3. Eight computer stations for each site for the purpose of providing ATSTAR training to private school personnel, parents, and the community. Specifications for the equipment are attached to this document.

4. All equipment, software, and supplies remain the property of the Austin Independent School District during the course of the grant.

5. Each private school is expected to fulfill their individual responsibilities to the ATSTAR project as outlined in the grant document, the Shared Service Agreement, and this Private School Agreement. Upon the private schools' satisfactory completion of all responsibilities as outlined in the grant, the Shared Service Agreement, and the Private School Agreement, the Austin Independent School District, at the end of the grant period, will transfer ownership of grant assets located at each private school to that private school.
