He was born and lives in Belgium. He has studied
extensively in Japan under noted Japanese artists,
including Kimura. He has been recognized by John Naka as
having a recognizable and unique style. In his own
characteristic way, he knows how to shape the trees, and
show them in a new form to the world. He teaches in Great
Britain or on the Continent, Russia, Canada, and the U.S.
Marc will do the Scots pine,
the Japanese Yew, and the Mustang Grape workshops.
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area, he has been
teaching for over 20 years. He did his apprenticeship in
Japan under Yasuo Mitsuya and teaches students never to
forget the beauty of the Bonsai art form, and always
respect nature. His approach is to emphasize fundamentals,
horticulture, aesthetics and traditions of Bonsai. Japanese
Black Pine and the Art of the Winter Silhouette are among
his favorite topics. Dennis will do workshops on the Black Pine, Korean Hornbeam, and the Azalea during the conference.
She has been working in the field of bonsai for 16 years
and is best known for her work in saikei. Pat spent four
years at the Bonsai Saikei School in Tokyo, Japan under the
instruction of Toshio Kawamoto, the originator of the
saikei style. She teaches classes for Santa Barbara adult
education and travels through out the U.S. giving
demonstrations and workshops on bonsai and saikei. Barbara
will do workshops on the Kingsville Boxwood saikei, Asian Jasmine, and the Crabapple during the conference.
A resident of Austin, Texas where he and his wife
Candy own and operate the MBP Bonsai Studio, Mike has
held various positions, including President, Director,
and Officer of Bonsai Clubs International. In addition,
he has served as President of the Austin Bonsai Society
and the Minnesota Bonsai Society. He regularly lectures
and teaches bonsai.
Lives in Helotes, Texas where he is the owner of
Bonsai Mountain Garden, a mail order supplier. Buddy is
a former President of the San Antonio Bonsai Society
and has been in bonsai for more than 20 years.
A well-known and knowledgeable Texas artist, Marty
originally came from California but now resides in San
Antonio. She has been involved in bonsai for more than
30 years and has served as an officer of the San
Antonio Bonsai Society, LSBF, and BCI.
A Past President of the Austin Bonsai Society and a
former director of American Bonsai Society, Vito owns
and operates Vito's Bonsai Nursery. His true loves
(besides his wife, Delores) are the Texas Cedar Elm and
azaleas.
Director Emeritus and a former President of the
Bonsai Society of Dallas as well as a valued member of
the Ft. Worth Bonsai Society, John is a Texas
"sage" who has mentored many aspiring
bonsaiists and authored innumerable articles for Texas
bonsai newsletters.
Has served as President of the Corpus Christi Bonsai
Club and LSBF many times. She has been involved in
bonsai for over 20 years, and her passion is saikei.
Editor of Texas Bonsai and leader of the
Shohin Group of Texas, Terry has been active in bonsai
for many years. Before coming to Texas, he lived in
California. He now resides in Austin, TX with his wife,
Sheila. Together, they own and operate Persimmon Hill
Bonsai Studio and Nursery.
Owner, with his wife Pat, of Jade Gardens and the curator of the Central Texas Bonsai Exhibit, Chuck is a past President of the Austin Bonsai Society and the current President of the Lone Star Bonsai Federation.
