My Current Book:Esperanza
Rising
by Pam Munoz Ryan
|
Esperanza
is a rich girl who lives on a large ranch in Mexico with her family. When
bandits kill her father, and her house is burned down, Esperanza, her mother,
her father’s head ranch hand Alfonzo, his wife Hortensia
and their son, Miguel flee to California. There they all get jobs as migrant
farm workers. When her mother is sick with Valley fever, Esperanza must work
to pay for the medicine. Miguel steals Esperanza’s savings to bring
Esperanza’s grandmother Abuelita to her mother to
help her recover. Alfonzo and Hortensia receive a
message from Miguel to go to the train station in Los Angeles. Miguel
surprises Esperanza with Abuelita. They take Abuelita to the farm labor camp. Mama recovers from her
illness. At the end Esperanza realizes that she could do whatever she wants
to do. She and Miguel rise above those
who held them down. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BECAUSE I FOUND IT BORING. |
