Meeting Information
Monthly meetings
are held the third Thursday of each month
at the Austin Zilker Garden Center at 2220 Barton Springs Road.
Our January meeting will be on the 16th. We'll be making
inital plans for our annual new beekeepers workshop, discuss
group orders of bees and books and plan the next year!
Summary of 2002 Meetings:
August
We had a mead-maker share the secrets of brewing
with honey. The presentation and lively discussion covered
meads as well as recipies using honey for ale style beers.
September
Our guest speaker has "cleaned up" with his soap making
projects and gave us a step by step demonstration of soap making
using both bees wax and honey as special ingredients.
October
A researcher from Texas A&M University,
gave an information packed presentation on work being done
on bee pheromones, stimulation of hive activities and the
social structure of various jobs among hive bees. We
kept her so long that we know a return invitation is needed!
November
Texas Beekeeper Danny Bounds and the 2003 Texas Honey
Queen honored us with a great visit. Everything from the
details of a production operation plus the exciting work
done by our Honey Queen were covered.
