Notes From The Hive

Notes From The Hive

The last two weeks we've had large numbers of swarms and swarm reports in the Austin area. I have retrieved several of various sizes, and one went to a friend who has "return to beekeeping". Davids father kept bees years ago, but David never got into the hobby until last week.

And on the topic of new beekeepers, I have always noticed that beekeeping colleauges I met at meetings were often a bit older than myself. I believe my observations were accurate, and this was confirmed when a guest speaker at our monthly meeting mentioned that ours was "one of the youngest beekeeper's groups" he had ever visited. We were glad to hear this since our goals are to educate both ourselves and others in the beneficial aspects of beekeeping. A natural consequence of our educational endeavors is contact with people fascinated with bees or interested in keeping them, so we're happy to have new beekeepers of all ages.

Several CAHBS members will attend the Texas Beekeepers Association summer clinic at the Bee Farms on June 20th; let us know at the June 18th meeting if you're interested in attending!
