Members of the Capital Area Honey Bee Stewards
in keeping with the goals of our organization strive to provide the community of Austin and surrounding areas with information, expertise, and assistance involving bees TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY.Each spring
and summer we receive numerous calls about swarming bees. While some members volunteer to pick up swarms, others may charge a fee for dealing with swarms. As we are able, volunteers respond and will attempt to capture swarms which are reachable.
Unfortunately, we cannot capture swarms that are beyond reach with simple equipment, nor can we always perform removal services for colonies of bees that may be established.
In many areas dispatchers, radio stations, county extension offices, or fire departments keep lists of beekeepers interested in responding to swarm calls.
We keep a list of beekeepers interested in assisting with removal and can provide referrals upon request.Often, a beekeeper will be happy to remove a swarm rather than risk the bees being destroyed. Check your area for helpful resources.
