What is CANPAC?

The Central Austin Neighborhood Planning Advisory Committee (CANPAC) is the City of Austin (COA) recognized Neighborhood Planning Team (NPT) for the Central Austin Combined Neighborhoods Plan. CANPAC was formed by residents and property owners who participated in the neighborhood planning process initiated by the city in 2002. See HISTORY.

The members of CANPAC are from seven neighborhood associations included in the plan boundries. CANPAC will hear presentations from property owners who request a plan amendment and determine the sentiments of the neighborhood associations and stakeholders to present a letter of support or opposition to the Planning Commission and City Council. CANPAC is a group of volunteers who dedicate their efforts to preserve the Central Austin Neighborhoods Plan.

From the City of Austin Central Austin Combined Neighborhood Plan:

"The Central Austin Combined Neighborhood Plan Contact Team members are members of the Central Austin Neighborhood Planning Advisory Committee (CANPAC). The current membership of this group consists of representatives from the seven neighborhood associations/neighborhood groups that actively participated throughout the development of the Central Austin Combined Neighborhood Plan:
Eastwoods Neighborhood Association
Hancock Neighborhood Association
Heritage Neighborhood Association
North University Neighborhood Association (NUNA)
Shoal Crest Neighborhood Association
University Area Partners (UAP)
West University Neighborhood Association."

"The Neighborhood Planning Team (NPT) is a group of people who have participated in the development of a plan. In the event that a property owner requests a plan amendment, this group will be responsible for determining the sentiment of neighborhood stakeholders and submitting a letter of support or opposition to the plan amendment application before the scheduled Planning Commission hearing.

The NPT also has the ability to submit an application to amend a neighborhood plan outside the scheduled time period for plan amendments. The teams can also submit an application on behalf of another person who wishes to apply for a plan amendment outside of the amendment cycle for that planning area."

CANPAC MISSION STATEMENT

The Central Austin Neighborhoods Planning Area Committee (CANPAC) serves as the Steward of the Combined Central Austin Neighborhoods Plan by:

" Supporting the goals of the overall Plan and the goals of the individual neighborhoods within the Plan;

" Serving as a resource to the individual neighborhoods in the Plan;

" Reviewing proposed changes to the Plan for the potential effects on the plan area;

" Monitoring proposed City ordinances or changes to ordinances for their effects on the plan area; and

" Reviewing the Plan periodically for the purpose of recommending improvements or clearing up ambiguities in the Plan through the Plan Amendment process.
