CEDEN's Mission is to promote and strengthen
families in need of prenatal, early childhood and parenting education
through community-based, family-centered and culturally comprehensive
services.

Services Provided :
| Early Childhood intervention services (in-home speech, physical or occupational therapy for children with serious developmental delays or medical conditions. |
| Pre and post-natal education and infant developmental screenings |
| Parenting education and child development activities for families of children with mild developmental delays or at high risk for developing delays. |
| Community education (monthly training for child care providers, bilingual childbirth and parenting classes, informal ESL and GED tutoring) |
Brief History of CEDEN

1979
|
CEDEN was founded by Dr. Emily Vargas Baron to serve Hispanic families in East and South Austin. It is modeled after CEDEN in Colombia, South America, a national center for research, education and service. CEDEN’s Parent Child Program is initiated to provide services to families with young children. Family Advocacy services are also provided as a resource to families. |
| 1987 | Agencies in Orange and Pharr, Texas replicate CEDEN’s Programs. |
| 1988 | CEDEN joins the Texas Interagency Council on Early Childhood Intervention in providing home-based services to children with developmental delays or complex meical needs. |
| 1989 | CEDEN’s Prenatal Education Program is born. Its objectice is to provide preventive educational services which will improve birth outcomes and reduce developmental delays in providing one-on-one mentoring. |
| 1990 |
The Teen Parent Program is designed and implemented as a pilot project in conjunction with Del Valle Independent School District. CEDEN Program models are highlighted by PBS, the General Accounting Office (GAO), United Way of America, Children’s Trust Fund and Children’s Defense Fund as exemplary and successful programs suitable for replication. |

Bryan Independent School District’s Teen Parent program replicates CEDEN’s Teen Parent Program. Child Development and Family Services components are sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children Goal One Project as a 30-month pilot project. CEDEN develops a new 18-month Child Care and Parenting Collaboration pilot project with Austin Community Nursery Schools. Agencies in El Paso and Dalhart, Texas replicate CEDEN programs. |
| 1992 | Child development and Family Services components are sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children Goal One Project as a 30-month pilot project. CEDEN and eight Austin agencies dedicate themselves to providing services in Southeast Austin through the Dove Springs Collaboration. Del Valle ISD invites CEDEN to provide home-based services to families in the Even Start Family Literacy Program. |
| 1993 | Agencies in Medford, Oregon and San Antonio, Texas replicate CEDEN’s programs. An Even Start Program in Taylor, Texas replicates CEDEN’s Prenatal Education and Family Services Curriculum. St. John’s Fmailies Together and Safe collaboration is formed. CEDEN is contracted to provide home-based services to parents in this Northeast neighborhood of Austin. |
| 1994 | The Healthy and Fair Start Program is selected by the Corporate Fund for Children as "Best of Texas" programs in the area of parenting education and support services. |
| 1995 | Agencies in Beaumont, Houston, and Temple, Texas replicate CEDEN’s Prenatal Education and Family Services Curriculum. |
| 1996 | Community and school-based programs in Jacksonville, Monahans and Rosebud, Texas replicate CEDEN’s child development, parenting and prenatal programs. |
| 1997 | CEDEN’s Pro-Family Parenting Curriculum and Prenatal Program are replicated in five sites throughout Texas; Electra, Jacksonville, Round Rock, San Antonio and Wichita Falls. |
