Ten representatives from churches throughout Mission Presbytery were joined by two from Colorado to spend 10 very hectic but gratifying days in Guatemala. Members of the trip were from San Antonio (John Calvin and First Presbyterian Churches), Goliad, Corpus Christi (Grace Presbyterian Church), Mercedes (Hispanic Ministries Council), Austin (Genesis Presbyterian Church), and Hunt, Texas, and from Colorado. We were led in-country by Joe and Selena Keesecker who are missionaries with PRESGOV (Presbyterian Groups, Obreros fraternales [mission workers] and Volunteers). They are marvelous servants of our Lord who made every aspect of our trip from travel to food, lodging and worship so much more enjoyable. They have been at their mission for one year and are already having a tremendously positive influence on the Presbyterian Church of Guatemala. Joe and Selena are helped by three young adult volunteers who spend a year of their lives serving God in villages in Guatemala. Please keep these precious disciples in your prayers.![]() We of the Guatemala Partnership Team are also so thankful of the support we have received from our churches and people in Mission Presbytery. Small amounts of money can have an enormous affect on these people. By buying our Guatemala crafts, collecting pennies or contributing to our Partnership fund, you have started a wonderful ball rolling that will positively impact the lives of thousands of wonderful Christians, the Maya Quiche. Please help us keep the momentum going so the hopes we've generated don't become false ones like so many previous programs that run for a couple of years and then quit. We spent the first afternoon and evening visiting with Carlos Lara, the General Secretary of the Presbyterian Church of Guatemala. He described the Church, that had been in conflict for the last ten years, was now ready to be reformed. He charged us to help their church. They feel they are ready to be a great Presbyterian Church as they learn things that are truly reformed, and as they reeducate their people in their Love of God. He asked for more relationships with us in PC(USA) at all levels, presbytery to presbytery, church to church and individual to individual. He challenged us to make sure that when we give money or help that it's not what is left over. "We want the same part of God's Love as you." The church needs to know that our missions flow from the Love of God. |
