Roman Lopez lives in Chuisajcava, Guatemala. While his first language is Quiché, he spoke in Spanish to describe the things his village has accomplished with assistance from CESSMAQ: | ||||||||

We have done a lot here. Before, it wasn't like it is now. We were without knowledge about how to plant coffee or care for our children or how to treat our wives, but CESSMAQ trained us, sharing their ideas with us. Like how to organize a committee. I am the treasurer-elect of the development committee for Chuisajcava. CESSMAQ gave us our first initiative, which was latrines. Then potable water. After that a school ... Before, people in the village criticized one another, they were afraid. But now they are not afraid. Rather we are together, working as a village should, all the women and children, too. We are united. |
