Women's Education

A Maya Quiché woman relates, in Spanish translated into English, some of her education through CESSMAQ:

Before, there was a sister, an organizer, named Rutilia Gomez. She said, "It is necessary to participate in a group. It is necessary for you to draw nearer and come together. You can learn from what CESSMAQ is coming to teach, what they are willing to give, because CESSMAQ is willing to help the poor, the women without experience."
"So come," said sister Rutilia Gomez.

So we, little by little, went.

I, at the beginning, went and my husband said, "What are you going to do?" It's a sad story. But I didn't pay attention to him, I just went, and kept going... They suggested we go to some training. I told my husband I was going and he said, "No! I don't give you permission to go. We are men. We give the orders," he said. But I, well, I didn't pay attention. I went anyway.

Thanks be to God, when I went to the trainings, I arrived. And through the classes, I went 3 or 4 times at the Maya Quiché Bible Institute. They gave us our trianing to write grant applications for projects. There we saw how to do an application. And we filled one out, to get help for our people.
