Mission - Maya Quiché Presbyteries
Theological Reflection Center
no disponible en español todavía
Maya Quiché pastor Samuel Sohom and his familyThe Partnership Agreement between Mission Presbytery and CESSMAQ calls for the creation and support of a Theological Reflection Center where elders and pastors of Mayan Guatemalan Churches can study and receive a certificate in the Theology of Christian Service.

Rev. Carl Siegenthaler, a life-long advocate of Christian service and community ministry, died at the end of a July 2000 mission trip to Guatemala. On the last night in the village when the group was sharing special memories, Carl spoke of Matthew 5:13, You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men. Carl expressed with great emotion how, for him, his interaction with the children of Chuisajcava had been a use of salt, that would continue all his life. He hoped that it was the same for the village.

In honor of Carl, and to support the Theological Reflection Center, Mission Presbytery is establishing the Carl Siegenthaler Memorial Scholarship Fund. The guidelines for administration of this fund will be mutually agreed upon by CESSMAQ and Mission Presbytery. The purpose of the fund will be to provide scholarships to elders and pastors who cannot afford the cost of the Center's courses. CESSMAQ will administer the candidate selection process and Mission Presbytery will administer the scholarship fund.

Contributions to this fund should be sent to Mission Presbytery, clearly identified as contributions to the Carl Siegenthaler Scholarship Fund.
