CTACS General Meeting for October 15, 2007

Attending were Charlie and Chris Boas, John Herron, Keith Sterzing, David Williams, and George Wyche.

Rain had threatened so George didn't bring his AmigaOne. He was coming from his new hourly job with Pratt Whitney Austin in north Austin.

George talked about how he got the job and the 2 face interviews for other positions he had.

We discussed the continuing impasse between Amiga Inc. and Hyperion which keeps anyone from buying and using Amiga computers.

George told the group that Rich Lawrence of NY State had collected enough money to be "our" representative at AmiWest 2007 in Sacramento, CA this coming Oct 22 & 23. George said he'd contributed $10 to the effort. Rich Lawrence is behind ART, Amiga Round Table, weekly broadcasts over Amiga Radio. He has been a hit.

Keith brought his Windows laptop and pleaded with us to bring it back to life from its vegetative state. He is unable to turn it off! That's it on the table with Chris to the right and George's beer to the left. Charlie and John know a few things about Bill Gates' equipment and they played with the task manager, played with <Ctrl + Alt + Delete> in its various guises to urge the unit to NOT just "go to sleep" but really shutdown. It took about 15 minutes.

Then it was again that long to make sure the fix stuck and letting Keith use it for a bit to see that we hadn't trashed it.

In the meantime we quizzed John about computer security issues AND the sideline business he is involved with, xyzmp3.com, selling the artist output of several Austin singer/songwriters. They are looking for more clients.
