Marble Falls, Texas, USA - Evidence of a great time in the Texas Hill Country - When you arrived at the Best Western you could feel the buzz already, people, old friends were visiting and even new people felt right at home. The registration table was all set up and Greg and all of his helpers were in place. The tidbits of food for the hospitality room were put out and people began to graze. Everyone arrived by late afternoon and preparations began for the evening meal that our club prepared. Rosella was cooking rice and Connie was cutting up fruit and everyone who volunteered got a job, even Rosella's friend from Pennsylvania. The Fiesta Progressive dinner was received with rave reviews and we took note of what we ran out of and next time we do this, we will not run out of anything!!!! The evening was spent visiting with old friends and having a very relaxing evening.
The tour to the beautiful Hill Country was just beyond words. The bluebonnets and all of the other wild flowers greeted us and were blooming their hearts out. The Buchanan Dam was one of our stops that was interesting. We got to the Canyon of the Eagles for a white sack lunch. It was very good and enjoyed by all relaxing under the old trees at the picnic tables. Everyone finally got rested and headed to the Confederate Airport where we looked and looked and some like Jan and others flew! Brave people. We all returned back to the motel and rested up a few hours and then headed to the Meadowlakes Country Club all dressed up for the banquet. The food and atmosphere was just great.
The award for the most Popular Car was given to Terry Sayther and Debbie Stuart. They usually go on all of the tours so I'll let you see it because I can't explain it. Ruth Petty had a very exciting trip to the Tri-City Tour. Her car had trouble outside of Austin, and boy, did she meet a hunk...a hunk in a wrecker... After she told her story, the house came down and she was awarded the Hard Luck Award. The entertainment for the evening was a surprise dress rehearsal for some country hicks who happened by the banquet room. We could not have planned a more un-rehearsed program. The "Hicks" were played by Rev. Vic Donnell, Roger and Jo Robinson (Duck raisers), Greg Herbert, Kent and Sara Spreen, Rosella and Alan Pringle (goat and rose raisers), Cathy Heine, Jerry Corona, Jack Bass, Dan and "Sexpot" Kay Bowen, Susan Franks, Jay Burks and the most beautiful bride in the sea Bo Franks. Thanks to Greg Herbert, Connie Speir and Jack Bass and others for all the hard work that was put into making this such a success. Lets start thinking about our big bash for the Texas 50th Tour.
The Road Relics had a great time in the Texas Hill Country. We were pleased to host the 46th Annual Tri-City Tour in Marble Falls, Texas, USA. We had a lot of fun planning this tour and we hope everyone attending had a good time. We had 39 members with 17 cars in attendance from the Road Relics. Overall, there were 155 people and 70 cars participating, mostly from Texas and Louisiana.
Registration began at noon Friday. Friday afternoon was free time to take advantage of the many local attractions around Marble Falls. Information was included in Goodie Bags that were distributed at registration. Friday evening we stayed right at home at the Best Western Hotel. Dinner was on us. It was called Fiesta Progressive. Dinner was served in the Hospitality Suite. Rules were posted for how it is done. Participants were free to find a place to sit or just roam around the hotel parking lot while they enjoyed the fiesta. Real live entertainment was provided by lies men tell other men out in the parking lot around the cars.
Saturday started with a continental breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. followed by a drivers briefing at 8:15. Our drive took us through the scenic hill country of central Texas stopping at several points of interest. Wild flowers were absolutely spectacular this year and the weather cooperated by giving us a gorgeous sunny tour day between several days of showers. First stop was Longhorn Caverns. The Longhorn Caverns tours started about every 20 minutes and they took groups of about 30 people or so. Over half of the tour participants took advantage of these underground tours. From Longhorn Caverns, the tour continued to Lake Buchanan Dam and then to Canyon of the Eagles for lunch. After lunch, we continued on tour to Burnet and the Confederate Air Force Hangar and Museum. Those interested in a flying lesson took advantage of this opportunity to get a flight. The tour then continued back to the hotel for a short rest. We departed the Best Western Hotel in convoy at 5:45 p.m. to drive over to the Meadowlakes Golf & Country Club for our banquet. At the banquet, we had entertainment and some prizes.
