New Year Tour

Formerly the Gloom Tour

Kay and Dan Bowen hosted the January GLOOM Period Tour. The tour started at noon in the Albertson's parking lot at Hwy 290 West and US 71 West. Many cars of all varieties were represented and when Dan and Kay drove up in their 1937 Plymouth Sedan, the group was ready to go to lunch at the Stadium restaurant.

After lunch we headed to Stonebridge Rest home to see Bob Blackwell. Dan wheeled Bob out into the parking lot to have him see the members and their cars. Bob was so excited to see everyone and visa versa. We stayed about 30 minutes or so and headed along Circle Drive for about 4 miles and crossed over Hwy 290 to the Bird Sanctuary.

As we parked and entered the Bird Sanctuary a large Parrot and handler greeted us. The handler proceeded to tell us about this particular bird. We went inside the gate and was given a guided tour by the owner to the many cages and different birds they had. They even had a stage area were we all got to sit down and be entertained by the owner’s wife with a Cockatoo. This tour took about and hour and a half and upon leaving, the owner presented us all with a parting gift of a pocket planner and a peacock feather.

Then we headed back onto the final cruise of the tour. We arrived at Dan & Kay's place and their property field was full of Antique cars.

Inside the shop Kay had prepared Hot Chocolate, Wassail, Coffee and soft drinks. A sheet cake and snack desserts were available as well. The soft drinks were in the 60's Pepsi vending machine that was unlocked and open for the taking. Vic pointed out the Beer slot; so a few had a cold beer.

A Poker Run game was played along the tour route and at every stop member drew a playing card from a double deck. At the end of the tour Dan asked for the highest hand It turned out to be 4 Aces with a joker. (no cheating here) The top prize was given out, held by the Spillar's. Then Dan wanted to know who had the worst hand. Ward Bebee, not even a pair, held this hand.

The tour wrapped up with everyone having a great time. We would like to thank everyone who attended and came out to enjoy the day with us. We were very happy and delighted to have all of you.
