I received a letter from one of our former CFIP recipients, John Goodrich, who was the Battalion Commander of the NROTC unit at UT when he was selected by the Longhorn Flight (I believe it was Davis Rohr and Charlie Loftin who selected him) for a CFIP Scholarship. In addition to the flight training, they awarded him a $1,000 scholarship to help with his financial struggles at UT. John was selected for Navy flight training, and the rest is history in the making. John completed his training at Pensacola NAS, and is now enroute to Oceana NAS in Virginia Beach, where he will be training in the F/A 18. Another success story for the Daedalian CFIP program, and for the Longhorn Flight. I am transcribing his letter to me so that you might read it to the assembled flight if you so choose. I believe they would enjoy hearing it.

"CHUCK,
THANKS FOR THE NOTE ON DAEDALIANS MEMBERSHIP. I JUST TURNED IN MY APPLICATION. IT WILL BE GOOD TO JOIN THE ORGANIZATION THAT HELPED ME OUT SO MUCH. MAYBE SOMEDAY I WILL BE PASSING ON THE GIFT OF FLIGHT TO SOME COLLEGE STUDENT.

MY WIFE AND I ARE GEARING UP TO MOVE TO MY NEXT DUTY STATION, NAS OCEANA, AT VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. I WILL BE TRANSITIONING TO THE F/A-18 SUPER HORNET FROM THE T-45 GOSHAWK. I CAN'T WAIT TO BREAK THE SOUND BARRIER.

THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND ADVICE. I LOOK FORWARD TO BEING IN THE SAME BROTHERHOOD AS YOU AND YOUR OLD COMRADES.

JOHN GOODRICH"

His reference to the "note on Daedalians" concerns the information and application I sent him for the three year free membership in the Daedalians for graduates of UPT. He has joined us!
