Ron Butler
I grew up in Missouri just outside of St. Louis and graduated from Festus HS in 1958 After HS I attended Missouri Valley College for one year before being accepted into the Aviation Cadet Navigator Training.

I was commissioned and rated as a Navigator in April 1961. I then flew in KC-135s at Ellsworth and Walker AFBs before going to UPT at Vance AFB in March 1967. I graduated DG and was selected to stay at Vance as a T-38 IP. When Columbus AFB transitioned from SAC to ATC in March 1970 I went to help establish UPT at Columbus.

At Columbus I was Assistant Flt CO, Flt CO, Chief of Academics, Chief of Military Training and also set up a local check out for new IP's returning from SEA. In 1972 I attended AF Safety School and the checked out in the RF-4 and sent to Udorn, Thailand as Wing Flight Safety Officer flying the RF-4 on combat missions.

Upon returning stateside I went to University of Omaha to finish my BGS in Psychology. And then went to Shaw AFB as an RF-4 IP. In 1977 I got assigned to NATO at the Allied Tactical Operations Center (ATOC) at Sembach Germany. I served as RECCE Plans Officer and then was Chief of Plans until November 1980 when I came to Bergstrom AFB.

There was no available position as a Lt.Col in the 67th TRW so I was assigned as a Sq Pilot. On my third training flight I took a Hawk in the windshield and spent 30 days in the hospital. Upon release I was assigned as Chief of Quality Control in the 67th Wing Maintenance.

After one year there I got my dream job as Chief of Safety of the 67 TRW. I retired in February 1984 and then flew as a corporate pilot for 18 years.

I currently volunteer as a Reserve Deputy for the Travis County Sheriff's Office. I am the President of my Home Owner's Association. I am active in both The Jaguar Club of Austin and Mustang Club of Austin.
