What do we do at meetings?

Mostly we practice improving our speaking skills and gaining confidence in speaking to others.

  1. Members give prepared speeches.

  2. Members give impromptu speeches (known as Table Topics).

  3. Prepared speeches get evaluated orally and in writing by an assigned evaluator.

We also develop our leadership and management skills, which can be a great asset to your career.

Five Presentation Tips from Exchange Park Toastmasters

  1. Include in your title the one thing you want your audience to remember about your speech.

  2. Write your speech the way you talk. Otherwise, it will come out stilted.

  3. Memorize your first and last sentences, and don’t change them regardless of what happens.

  4. Practice out loud. Read your speech to a family member, friend or even your pet. Tape record it, or practice in front of a mirror.

  5. Speak from an outline or a list of key words. (You might write them on a white board.) Use PowerPoint only if you really need it to reinforce your points.
