Special Programs

DELTA

DELTA is an open-entry, open-exit alternative diploma program designed for the student who has dropped out of school or is at risk of dropping out. The program offers intensive individual instruction as well as a self-paced format. DELTA curriculum gives students choices for how to earn credit in any particular course. Students use both practical experiences as well as a computer-assisted learning system called NovaNET to create their own learning strategy. Morning, afternoon and some evening sessions are made available in an effort to accommodate the schedules of non-traditional students.

The Learning Center (TLC)
The Learning Center offers a viable alternative to traditional mathematics instruction. TLC offers a self-paced math instruction curriculum that allows students to approach mathematics from a variety of creative perspectives. The supportive environment at the TLC not only respects students' different learning styles, but offers a mix of one-on-one tutoring and both group and individual work time.

On the Job Training (OJT)
On-the-job-training is a work/study program designed to assist students in the transition from a school environment into the world of work. The school enters into partnership with local employers and together they work to secure jobs for students which match students' individual interests and aptitudes. The program's underlying philosophy is to prepare a quality workforce for the job needs of the community.

After School Tutoring
JHS offers a wide array of tutoring opportunities for students after school. Teachers and volunteers staff a tutoring center, open to all students, which provides specialized tutoring in all subjects areas four days a week.

College and Career Center
The College and Career Center, or C3, offers services to students who plan to pursue a post-secondary career as well as those students who are preparing to enter the world of work immediately upon graduation. C3 provides job and internship opportunities, career assessment services, work-based learning opportunities, college presentations, and workshops on college test preparation, college admissions and financial aid. Many professional presentations are also held throughout the year from such groups as the military, state and local colleges and universities, Ivy League universities and high tech industry representatives.
