Debate

Debate is a long-standing Johnston tradition. Debate team members participate in several meets throughout the year in various types of debate including cross-examination (CX), Lincoln-Douglas debate, and extemporaneous and persuasive speech. Debate provides students with self-confidence and public speaking skills which prove vital later on in life.

"Debate makes you think so fast; you get an incredible adrenaline rush, and at the same time it makes you a more confident public speaker," junior Dana P. said.

Last year, the current events team placed in district and regional competition as did individual prose speakers and Lincoln-Douglas debators. The debate team looks forward to continued academic success for the 1999-2000 school year.
