National Honor Society
One of the largest organizations at Johnston High School is the National Honor Society. The National Honor Society (NHS) consists of students who have both outstanding grades and superior teacher recommendations. To be eligible for the honor, students have to be in the tenth, eleventh or twelfth grade. Sophomores and juniors need to have a GPA of 3.3 or higher, while seniors need a 3.0 grade grade point average. Teachers evaluated the students on the basis of dependibility, courteousness, attendance and leadership ability.
This year, the NHS plans to participate in service projects, including a school-wide recycling program. They also plan to participate in fundraising activities in order to possibly provide scholorships for students taking Advanced Placement tests at the end of the spring semester.
