The Shiloh

Johnston's student newspaper, the Shiloh, is an award winning publication and a member of ILPC, THSPA, Quill and Scroll, and is the recipient of ILPC's Award of Distinguished Merit, Quill and Scroll's First Place Award, CSPA's Gold Medalist Award and All Columbin Honors.

Issues come out once a six weeks and run from 12 to 20 pages, including advertisements (which are $5.00 per column inch or $4.00 for school organizations). In October, the Shiloh participates in the Texas Association of Journalism Educators Fall Fiesta Conference in San Antonio. Johnston High School placed second in sweepstakes last year for both the Shiloh and the yearbook, the Confederate.

The Shiloh is run primarily by an all student editorial board consisting of talented juniors and seniors. The Shiloh's adviser is Janet Elbom, winner of the Max R. Haddick journalism teacher of the year award. Last year Johnston sophomore, Kate Paddock won top honors in the UIL feature writing competion for 4A high schools as well as the "Tops in Texas" award for the best feature writing in the state. WOW!
