Phil was born in Pittsburg, Texas, the son of a Southern Baptist minister and a
school teacher. However, he spent most of his youth in Ohio, and graduated from
the University of Akron with a BA degree in Political Science in 1975. In 2002,
he earned his MBA degree at St Edwards University in Austin.
Phil was a U.S. Army Infantry officer from 1975 to 1994, serving in various locations throughout the world during his military career. Assignments were mortar platoon leader, anti-tank platoon leader, company executive officer, supply officer, recruiting officer, operations officer, accident investigation officer and infantry battalion executive officer. Locations served were Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Hood, Texas; Hohenfels, Germany; Kirch Goens, Germany; Frankfurt, Germany; Jonesboro, Arkansas; Jackson, Mississippi; Columbus, Ohio; and Fort Rucker, Alabama. A graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College. Served in leadership positions in the 2nd Battalion, 58th Infantry; 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry; 3rd Battalion, 36th Infantry, Jackson Recruiting Battalion and 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry. Served as a staff officer in the III Corps Headquarters at Fort Hood, V Corps Headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany and the 83rd US Army Reserve Command, Columbus, Ohio. Phil retired from active duty holding the rank of Major. After a successful career in the U.S. Army, Phil decided to put his interest in financial planning and investments to work. He learned the brokerage business at securities firms affiliated with both NationsBanc Investments and Banc One Securities, where he worked as an on-site investment representative within various branches of these banks in the Austin area. Since 1999 Phil has worked at Halbert Wealth Management, a registered investment advisor in Bee Cave, Texas, as an Investment Consultant. Phil is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™* (CFP ®) practitioner. Phil also holds the FINRA Series 7, 63, and 65 securities licenses, as well as an insurance license in the State of Texas. Phil lives in Austin with his wife Brenda and their daughter, Sarah, who attends the University of Texas in Austin. When not helping clients put together diversified investment plans, Phil enjoys being active in church and civic activities. |
