Ernest S. Dean, Jr., Lt. Col. USAF (Ret.)
Chaplain Dean was born and raised in North Carolina. He has earned a BS degree from N.C. State University (1955), An MA from St. Mary's University, San Antonio (1964), and a Master of Divinity from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary (1978). Prior to entering seminary, Dean severed 20 years as a regular officer in the Air Force. Among his three overseas assignments was 13 months in Vietnam as a C-130 aircraft commander. Other duties included heavy transport pilot in the Military Air Transport Service, Wing Maintenance Staff Officer, Wing Operations Staff Officers, Maintenance Functional Flight Test Pilot, AF ROTC Detachment Commander and Headquarters AFROTC Analysis and Evaluation Division Chief. He and his wife Shirley have eight children and 8 grandchildren. Five of the children have served in the US Navy. One daughter, career Navy, is still on active duty, and one son recently retired after 20 years active duty. Another son died while on active duty. Chaplain Dean retired from full-time active parish ministry in 1998 and has served as an administrator and interim pastor in his denomination since then. MOAA members have been assisted by Chaplain Dean in crisis counseling, funerals, and memorial services. In addition, he offers prayers at our monthly Chapter meetings and monthly Board meetings. |
