Colonel Ben A. Meharg, U.S.M.C. (Ret)

Colonel Meharg graduated from the University of Texas in 1959 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant of Marines. He served as a U.S. Marine Corps Aviator until 1984 when he retired.  During his career in the Marine Corps he served two full tours in Vietnam and flew 950 combat missions.  He  also commanded two Marine Squadrons during his career and received a number of combat related medals during his Vietnam tours. He was the Chief of Staff, Services, Marine Corps Air Bases Western Area when he retired.

From 1984 until 1995 Colonel Meharg was the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the UCI University Club, Inc, Irvine, California.  During this period he was involved in many civic and business activities.  He was Co-Chair of the Committee that formed the City of Mission Viejo, California. Chairman of the Mission Viejo Planning Commission and the Economic Development Commission  and was on the Board of Directors of the Mission Viejo and Saddleback Valley Chambers of Commerce and Saddleback Community College.

During the summer of 1995, Colonel Meharg returned to Austin and shortly thereafter came to work  for Blue Whale Moving Company as the Chief Financial Officer. He became President in 1996.  He elected to return to the position as CFO shortly after the current Company President joined Blue Whale Moving.

Colonel Meharg graduated from the University of Texas with a BBA, Engineering Route to Business, Summa Cum Laude from the University of Southern California with an MBA, Distinguished Graduate Naval War College and Air War College. Colonel Meharg is married and has 3 children and 6 grand children in the Austin area.
