23 FEBRUARY 2009 PRESENT: Charles Bush, Ernie Dean, Bill Del Vecchio, Pat Eagan, Leon Holland, Merlen Howe, Norman Jefferson, Wes Lokken, Fred Lord, John Musgrove, Roger Rabago, John Rehm The meeting was called to order at 1330 hrs. by President Merlen Howe Chaplain Dean opened the meeting with an Invocation MINUTES of the January Board Meeting were approved as submitted TREASURER'S REPORT: Bank Balance as of 31 January 2009 - $9313.25 OLD BUSINESS A. TCC Meeting 1. John Musgrove reported that the Council made
their own reservations in Austin. They requested that our Chapter plan a
Saturday morning event for the spouses of the Council members. We set up a tour
of the LBJ Library followed by 2. Wes Lokken represented our Chapter at the business meeting on Saturday. He suggested that we request a detailed report from the Council as to what needs to be done in the future when they meet in Austin. This report will be in the Secretary's Information File when received. 3. The most important matter of business at the Council meeting was how to interest and attract newly retired officers. It appears that many do not know about local chapters of MOAA. Our Board discussed various ways to notify new National members re: local chapters in their area. One solution would be to have National give a new member the Chapter name and membership chairman's name and e-mail address. NEW BUSINESS A. The Preamble in our membership directory needs to be updated. Roger Rabago will handle this. B. The Service Reps. were asked to update all e-mail addresses of their members before the membership directory is printed. C. President Howe requested more nominations for Leadership Pins. The following Chapter members received Leadership Pins at the Anniversary celebration meeting: Stan Bullard; Ernie Dean; Pat Eagan; Roger Rabago; John Rehm; Gerry Walters. Leon Holland and Bill Del Vecchio received Outstanding Leadership Coins. D. Nominating Committee - There is no official report at this time. Bill Del Vecchio asked that we give him the names of any members who would be willing to serve on the Board. OFFICERS REPORTS 1st V.P. - Wes Lokken reported that the March speaker would be Clark Strong whose topic is Insurgent Activities in the U.S. The April speaker will be LTC Brian Smallwood discussing the Wounded Warriors program. 2nd V.P. - John Musgrove made a Motion that new members should pay dues to our Chapter in lieu of the one year free membership. Those joining in June or September will be paid up for the current year and the following year. The Motion was seconded and passed unanimously. USAF Rep. - Norm Jefferson requested that an article be printed in the Newsletter asking members to verify their E-mail addresses. He also reported that he has updated the A.F. members' E-mail addresses. USA Rep. - Fred Lord commented that some of his members were unable to find seats at the dinner when they arrive at 6:30. A solution to this problem was tabled until the March Board Meeting. PERSONAL AFFAIRS CHAIRMAN - Leon Holland complimented the February speaker on his informative presentation and handout. TREASURER - Roger Rabago asked for someone to file the Federal Income Tax form. Wes Lokken volunteered to do so. NEWSLETTER - John Rehm announced that the June 2010 Newsletter will be his last one due to his relocating to San Antonio.
