AMOAA BOARD MEETING MINUTES
26 MAY 2009

Present: Charles Bush, Ernie Dean, Bill Del Vecchio, Pat Eagan, Laura Fowler, Leon Holland, Joyce Hoover, Merlen Howe, Norm Jefferson, Wes Lokken, Fred Lord, Ben Meharg, John Musgrove, Roger Rabago

The meeting was called to order by President Wes Lokken at 1330 hrs.

Chaplain Dean opened the meeting with an Invocation

MINUTES of the April Board Meeting were approved as submitted. A later correction was noted by Fred Lord: 4 scholarships will be presented each year to JROTC Cadets with rotation every 4 years among 16 schools.

TREASURER'S REPORT - Bank Balance as of 30 April 2009 - $10,322.33

OLD BUSINESS

A. Newsletter Advertising - Roger Rabago is working on the cost of postage. The committee members for advertising submissions are Laura Fowler, Roger Rabago and John Rehm. The matter has been tabled for further action.

B. Dinner Seat Saving - It was suggested that the seating charts show the location of the podium to help with orientation of the seats

C. BAE address is correct as stated in the newsletter. It was suggested that a small map be printed in the newsletter to pinpoint the exact location of our dinner meeting.

D. Tax Exempt Status - Laura Fowler volunteered to check on Federal Tax information required

E. Chapter History - Records of all special events are kept in the chapter secretary's files

F. Waiving First Year Dues for New Members - The Board previously voted not to do so. An exception will be made for newly commissioned ROTC Officers.

G. Gold Bar Program - Fred Lord suggested that the 2nd. V.P. and the ROTC Rep. share information to implement this program. Issues and solutions to make it work will be discussed at a later date.

H. JROTC Awards Program - Fred Lord mailed out awards and certificates to the schools. Two $500 Scholarships were awarded this year. The money will be sent to the Financial Aid officers at the respective universities when confirmation is received that the students are registered and attending the school.

NEW BUSINESS

A. Status of Speakers - Wes Lokken and Laura Fowler will work on this

B. June Attire - Casual Dress -reminder will be in the June newsletter. It was suggested that we state in the newsletter "Coat and Tie" instead of the current "Casual Dress" for regular meetings (other than June & September).

C. Summer Break and Fall Start-up - no dinner meetings in July and August. No June Board meeting - Next Board meeting will be 24 August 2009 at 1330 hrs. at the Museum at Camp Mabry.

D. Regional Meeting and Report -The regional meeting of the C of C was conducted by telephone. Report of this meeting is posted on our website.

E. By-Laws Review - Our chapter will look at changes in the By-Laws as instituted by National and decide how ours need changing for conformity to National

F. Auxiliary Review - We will check into the feasibility of organizing a Women's Auxiliary within our chapter. CMDR Bev Kelsey is checking into the matter.

G. Back-ups - It was suggested that each Board member have a back-up person who can fill in if necessary.

OFFICERS REPORTS

2nd V.P. - Ben Meharg reported he met with BG Nichols and he offered to help with membership of National Guard Officers. He and Ben will discuss this further. It was moved, seconded and passed unanimously that we extend one year free membership to these Officers.

USA Rep. - Fred Lord reported that he will continue as the Army Rep. for one more month in Gerry Walters' absence

USAF Rep. - Norm Jefferson commented that the monthly birthday lists in the newsletter are often outdated and incorrect. It was suggested that these lists be discontinued or made current.

Chaplain - Ernie Dean reported that Andi Petticrew is doing well and that she has a very supportive family. He also reported that CAPT Walter Alt was recovering from surgery and doing well and that Fred Bangasser's grandson was recovering from a serious illness.

Personal Affairs Officer - Leon Holland announced there would be a committee meeting in August. The committee members are: Bill Del Vecchio, Ernie Dean, Wes Lokken, Merlen Howe, Pat Eagan and a representative of the ROWC.

Past President - Bill Del Vecchio suggested we print an article entitled "Recognize Your Leaders" written by COL Lee Lange, Director, MOAA Chapter Affairs. This will be given to John Rehm for publication in the newsletter at a later date.

PRESIDENT'S COMMENTS

Wes Lokken expressed his pleasure at being elected President and thanked the retiring Board members for their service.

Chaplain Dean closed the meeting with a Benediction.

Meeting adjourned at 1450 hrs.
