AMOAA BOARD MEETING MINUTES
20 OCTOBER 2008

PRESENT: Charles Bush, Ernie Dean, Pat Eagan, Leon Holland, Joyce Hoover, Merlen Howe, Norm Jefferson, Wes Lokken, Fred Lord, John Musgrove, Roger Rabago, John Rehm

The meeting was called to order at 1330 hrs. by President Merlen Howe

Chaplain Dean opened the meeting with an Invocation

MINUTES of the September Board Meeting were approved as submitted

TREASURER'S REPORT - Bank Balance as 30 September 2008 - $8,391.94

OLD BUSINESS
A. 50th. Anniversary Planning - no complete report as of this time. John Musgrove will get information on names and addresses of the Presidents of other military organizations in our area to be invited to the January meeting (at their own expense) to celebrate our anniversary
B. Audit - John Musgrove distributed copies of the internal audit report which was conducted on October 8, 2008. No discrepancies were found; all records clear and excellent.
C. Fiscal Committee Report - Roger Rabago distributed copies of spread sheets detailing dinner costs for the past year and receipts and expenditures for the same period.
1. Detailing meal costs, speaker gifts, beverage costs, Xmas gift to wait staff, and the Christmas Band showed a deficit of $436.79 for dinner costs for 2007-2008.
2. A motion was made, seconded and passed unanimously to increase the meal charge to $22.00/person beginning in January.

3. A motion was made, seconded and passed unanimously to give the wait staff a $200. Christmas bonus again this year
D. MOAA Leadership Award Recommendations - Pres. Howe urged Board members to write recommendations for nominees for this award which are to be e-mailed to him. Pres. Howe and Pat Eagan will submit these recommendations to National MOAA.
NEW BUSINESS
A. In commemoration of the Marine birthday, the November speaker will be LtGen Howell, USMC (ret.)
B. Pres. Howe requested information for the 4th. Quarter meeting of TCC.

OFFICERS REPORTS

1ST. V.P. - Wes Lokken reported that he will put an article in the Austin American Statesman regarding our chapter's meeting date, time and place. It will be noted that interested people should contact our website for further information.

2nd. V.P. - John Musgrove reported that we have 238 paid members. As decided at the September Board Meeting, there will be a welcome briefing each month at 60 on the night of the dinner at BAE for all new members.

3rd. V.P. - Charles Bush commented that our chapter's contribution to the Patriot's Fund was included in the e-mail report from Mike Boston.

USA Rep. - Fred Lord suggested we should consider a one-year free membership to increase our members. This was tabled until the November Board Meeting at the request of the Treasurer.

USAF Rep - Norm Jefferson commented that he had tried to get information from the Defense Finance & Accounting Service and was unable to get a response after several attempts. It was suggested we write a letter to MOAA telling them the problem. Pres. Howe will sign the letter.

Navy Rep. - Joyce Hoover reported that she had received good response from the letters sent to potential members in our area.

Personal Affairs Chairman - Leon Holland announced that the P.A. Committee met prior to this meeting. He distributed copies of the Survivor's Information Guide to the Committee members. The consensus is that the Committee is functioning well.

Chaplain - Ernie Dean reported that Ben Meharg's wife is awaiting a liver transplant; Chuck Szendre's cancer has escalated and he is being treated in San Antonio; attempts to contact Gen Blood have not been successful.

Chaplain Dean closed the meeting with a Benediction
