Austin, Texas Chapter

The Association for all Military Officers
Companion Bulletin-May 2007
Companions,
Our last meeting until September, will be held at the Austin Club on Thursday, 10 May. Entertainment for this event is being arranged. Please complete the attached menu form and mail it with your check to our treasurer Companion Jim Burrill.

Membership: Companion Stanley Bullard is on a recruiting campaign and will probably have three guests at the May meeting. This will be an opportunity for us all to consider doing the same.

Youth Leadership Conference: Companion "Rudy" Rudy has contributed $200.00 toward our 2007 Youth Leadership Conference scholarship program. After I briefed the new Principal at James Bowie High School, Mr. Stephen Kane, on the YLC program, I offered to provide five scholarships for his students. The Bowie counselors have reported ten applications so far. If you have an emerging high school junior or senior in mind that you would like to send to one of this year's YLCs, please contact me and I will assist in making the arrangements. All conferee applicants should be in the top 25% of their
high school class in order to be competitive and derive maximum benefit from these conferences. Our own Companion Bob Vaughan, though now living in Dallas, has volunteered to be on the staff of the Texas A&M YLC, scheduled for 15 - 19 July. This will be his second year at TAMU.

Companion Chuck Szendrey, our Chapter Adjutant, is continuing his recovery phase at home. Chuck is working hard to regain muscle strength after being bedridden for so long. He would have attempted to attend our April meeting had his balance met his expectation. Companion Robert Bernstein continues to override his health vicissitudes and graced us with his presence at the April meeting. It seems everyone wanted to see pictures of Companion Stanley Bullard when he was a young USAF Captain flying B-52s over Vietnam. Companion Tom Anderson and I had to arm-wrestle over who would have the privilege of driving MG Bernstein to the Holiday Inn.

If you desire a particular speaker or subject at a future meeting, please contact Companion Stanley Bullard at sgbullard@sbcglobal.net or
926-8438. We aim to please.

We should all be sensitive to the needs of our members that require assistance to facilitate their attendance at our meetings. Please do not hesitate to call me at 261-6272, to arrange for this service.

Andrew J. McVeigh III
Chapter Commander

Request: 100% property tax reduction for veterans with 100% service connected disability

Reason: approximately 30,000 Texas veterans are 100% service connected disabled who have honorably served both their country and the State of Texas and have made physical, emotional, and mental sacrifices resulting in their disabilities. These service connected disabilities have hindered these Texas veterans from achieving their fullest societal and economic potentials. The dream, concept, pride and sense of self-sufficiency and self-worth of home ownership are difficult at best for disabled veterans. The economic privations and reduced earning potential as a direct result of service-connected disabilities are exacerbated by ever increasing property taxes. All citizens of Texas understand and appreciate the sacrifices that have been made by these veterans. It is now time to recognize these sacrifices in a substantive and material gesture by making home ownership a reality for these patriots. To make this happen the following veterans organizations request that these 100% service connected disabled veterans be granted 100% reduction of their property taxes

Eastman's bible dictionary says there are at least 2
measures for the term "cubit":

* Standard cubit : elbow to end of middle finger (20").
* Lower forearm cubit : elbow to base of the hand (12").

I was always taught to respect my elders,
But it keeps getting harder to find one.
