Events and News

March - June 2004

For the summer months, we have started a Summer Children's Storybook Hour. This is possible through the efforts of Stacy Hidrogo. The stories will be read in English and Spanish. Bring your 4-9 year olds by at 10:30 until 11:30 AM on Wednesdays.

Our Library Coordinator Sandi Hidrogo has been busy buying new books and videos with the Tocker Grant money for us to enjoy. Here are two new sets of children's books that are bound to please. She obtained the Dear America series which is a multi-cultural view of the United States from the format of children's journals and a set of Nancy Drew Mysteries.

She has also enlarged the collection of large-print book for persons who are partially-sighted or enjoy having a larger print to read.

She has also been taking advantage of the discount Half-Price Books has given us and bought 105 new books plus our Library has joined Oprah's Children's Book of the Month Club.

Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative has donated actual office supplies and $100 dollars for buying what we needed. Sandi went shopping and obtained toner cartridges, copy paper, typewriter ribbons, legal pads, file folders, and card stock for all the new library cards she is having to make.

We were able to pass on some of our extra resources and donated 188 used children's books and 2 sets of encyclopedias to the new Webberville Library.

Another way we are getting new books is from the efforts of a new business in Manor - The Ladies Workout Express. If you bring in a new book (hard cover only) from the list of 50 books, the enrollment fee of $100 will be waived. Click here to see the list of designated books.

On Juneteenth at the Community Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, a special plea was made to senior citizens to spend a few hours a week relieving at he front desk.
