Lanier senior Maylin Aguilo

When Maylin came to Lanier High, she had been in the US for only a year and a half. It took a while to learn the English she needed to fit in to the new school, but with tutoring and the help of new friends she became an excellent student:

Maylin has been a National Honor Society member since her junior year, and earned the Trustee's Schilar Award for three years and Health Science Outstanding Recognition for one. That, along with her 240 hours of community service, has earned her NACA's $500 scholarship for good citizenship.

Maylin plans to attend the University of Texas in the fall.
