Volunteer
Program Mission Statement: Our mission is to use
the talents and resources of community members to strengthen
the delivery of quality services for the immigrant community
in Central Texas.
At
PAPA, we attribute our growth and success over the past decade
to the support and dedication of our staff and volunteers.
Our volunteers have included full and part-time individuals
from all walks of life. Our volunteers also help us advocate
for immigrant and refugee rights. Some of our volunteer opportunities
are listed below.

NOTE: All volunteers must be over 18 years of age, will be
subject to a criminal background check and must complete eight
hours of general office duties at the Political Asylum Project
of Austin before beginning a specific volunteer position.

Process inmate mail, call detention centers
to set up legal phone conference with inmates and collect
specific information from inmates |

Work closely with the attorney in building
a client's cases, research country conditions, collect
evidence of the client's assertions and assist the DERP
legal assistant in completing immigration forms. |

Collect client's criminal
records via phone and/or mail, research the conviction using the Texas
Penal Code and/or the Federal Code of Criminal Procedure to establish
the immigration consequences of that offense.
