Marilyn MANISCALCO Henley (# 1653)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (# 1388) opened the monthly POINTers In Person
meeting at 1:00 Sat, April 15, 2000 at Bank One in Round Rock with another
fabulous pot luck luncheon. Twenty-five members and guests attended. The
meeting
began at 2:00 with everyone stating his name. Jamie Cannone was wished
Happy Birthday.
Pat OXLEY (# 3713) gave an accounting of her recent visit to Kentucky to research her father's FARMER surname line. She found a birth record of her father's baby brother who had died before the age of two. She's preparing for the August 2000 BUFFO/FERRERO family reunion in Illinois.
Frank HENRY (IANNARINO) (#3258) and wife Beth are building a new home in San Angelo, TX.
Di Frei showed the May issue of Bon Appetit which is dedicated to Tuscany.
Jamie CANNONE reported that microfilmed records from Torino, ordered in October, finally arrived at the Family History Center. Jamie and Di regularly attend the weekly wine tasting at the Grapevine Market (a POINT lecturer!) and the Messina Hof Winery was featured the previous Saturday. They highly recommend visiting the winery, which is located in Bryan, TX.
Zina VERSAGGI Graalfs (# 3336) is reading microfilm for any additional wives for Sebastiano Versaggi. She will attend the Versaggi reunion in San Augustine, FL at Thanksgiving. Henry Graalfs searched in Iowa for his grandparent's marriage record and naturalization papers.
Jeanie MARSALIA (# 4251) has corresponded with a professional researcher in Italy. She charges $50 per hour. Jeanie is trying to get some information from a cousin.
Maria TONTI Schulze mentioned that she is teaching conversational Italian at her new complex.
Carol MENGINIE (# 4152) drove in from Dallas for the meeting. She is working on her mother's family who are from Campobasso Calabria.
Chick CHIAPPORI mentioned that he discovered that a resident of Lampasas, where he lives, is from Udine, Italy. Chick and Gladys will leave for the Italian Riviera on May 2.
Don VILLONI (#3985) has updated his Family Tree Maker software to 7.0. Don sent letters to the seven Villoni's who live in France that he found on an Internet directory. One responded with his family history and Don sent him his. Don is interested in the Jewish connection to Italy. Zina offered to loan Don a copy of a book about Jews in Sicily that her Uncle Dominic sent her. Augie TROIANI told more detail of the history of the Jewish in Italy up to the present time.
Marilyn MANISCALCO Henley (# 1653) reported that her trip to Orlando
was great. While husband Arthur was in conference meetings, she researched
at the genealogy section of the Orlando Library. They also spent one day
at
Epcot. She announced the Austin Genealogical Society seminar on August
19 with William Dollarhide as the speaker.
Louis SCOPEL (#4250) was welcomed back after his knee surgery. He announced
that Bill Brinkman discovered that two relatives are buried at the Thurber
Cemetery, which is the cemetery that was recently designated as a Historical
Cemetery of
Texas with Louis's help. Many Italians are buried there.
Bill BRINKMAN (# 1388) hired a researcher in Ukraine who helped him learn that two or three brothers of his grandmother, who was born in Ukraine in 1892, are still living. The researcher also sent photographs of the family, whose name is KOVRKU.
Christy PALUMBO Foster (# 2767) was welcomed back after a long absence. She subscribed to POINT for her father. Christy has offered to help with the Conference; her husband is on KUT radio.
Joyce TIANELLO Snodgrass and husband Bill joined us for the first time.
Joyce took Lin's pledge for the UT radio station KUT pledge drive and read
Lin's challenge to other Italian POINTers to match her donation. Joyce
mentioned to Lin that she was also Italian, and Lin invited her to attend
the meeting. Joyce's TIANELLO family moved to the Cleveland, Ohio area
from Italy. She is going to talk with her father to get more information.
The next POINT 2000 Conference meeting is Sunday, April 30 at 1 pm at
the Brinkman's. Next PIP Meeting is Wed, May 24 at 6:30 at the Bank One
Building.
