POINTers IN PERSON Minutes
Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin
Submitted by: Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the monthly meeting of POINTers IN PERSON on Wendesday, April 26, 2006 with eleven people in attendance.
Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) noted that the LDS records have a gap in the films of PUTIGNANO. The birth records for 1813-1816
and 1870; and the Marriage records for 1813-1823 and 1871 are missing from the catalog. Joe contacted Ruth Merriman at the
LDS in Salt Lake City for help and direction. Ruth put him in touch with Janet Depastena who is now responsible for the
scheduling of the filming in Italy. Janet suggested that Joe contact the Archivo di Stato in Bari and she provided an
email address. She also suggested that Joe contact the local church and seek help from the parish priest.
Joe has developed a new Access data base for the death records for PUTIGNANO and has begun extracting records from 1809 on. 1809 and 1810 are complete. Joe mentioned that those records are in the worst condition of any that he's encountered to date.
Joe brought a copy of the explanation and directions for interpreting Italian military service records that Riccardo on PIE
provided.
Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) received a letter from the Italian Consulate in Houston, Texas stating that she is eligible for dual citizenship! A form was sent to Jeanie requesting specific information that required her to write letters to get certified copies of the documents. She has already received replies and one document that she requested.
Don VILLONI gave an update on his pursuit of DNA testing.
He applied to Family Tree DNA on March 27, 2006, for his DNA kit. On March 29, 2006 he received his test kit. He then
followed the easy instructions and mailed back the DNA sample kit. On April 11, 2006 he received confirmation from Family
Tree DNA that his sample kit had been received and that the processing time was 6 weeks.
Don said he ordered two types of tests from the same sample. He explained that he ordered what has just now become
available and know as: 59 Marker Y-DNA, this is the Paternal side and he also ordered the mtDNA tests for the maternal side.
Don is now anxiously awaiting for the combined results of his paternal side (VILLONI) and maternal side (BARONE) which are
expected by the end of May.
Don also provided some insight on a little known (or discussed) record. The record is known as a "Bastardy Bond". The
record can be located in most civil records, i.e. birth, marriage and death records.
This bond was required from the father of illegitimate children and was usually made with County Court where the mother
resided. The intent was to protect the county from being forced to support the child. These records, although not well
known, existed in many states as well as in different countries of the world.
Sherry (PACELLI) Haddox (#4883) happily announced the arrival of Christian Austin Livengood, her third grandchild. He was born on April 9th and is the first child of Shannon and Greg Livengood (her daughter and son-in-law). She proudly passed around a picture of the baby.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00pm. We will have a potluck lunch on Saturday, May 13th, from 1:30 - 4:30pm.
