Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin
Submitted by: Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the meeting with 14 present.
A list was passed around to update the local chapter directory.
Bill Brinkman reported on his success on his father's French side going back to the 1500's!
Pizza was served and asparagus/cheese was a big hit!
Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) is continuing to extract death records from 1809 to 1900 and is currently viewing 1899 records. Joe found the death certificate (#98/4/15/1899) for his 3rd great-aunt, Maria Domenica MASTRANGELO who was born January 11, 1836. Among other things it listed her spouse, Matteo DELFINE, along with her parents Domenico MASTRANGELO and Elisabetta DELFINE.
Scott Patrick (#4819) mentioned contacting a high school classmate who shared the same surname, PINTO, as one of Scott's ggg-grandmother's, Maria Donata PINTO. The classmate didn't know much about her late father's family but gave Scott enough information that he was able to do some research for her. He found a record in the WWII "old man's" draft registration for her grandfather, Frank PINTO, that indicated he had been born in CATANZARO, CALABRIA, ITALY. It wasn't clear if this meant the town or the province. Scott passed along the data and also information on how she might continue to search through the films at the LDS church. With the PINTO name found throughout Italy and Scott's family coming from BASILICATA province, Scott is doubtful there is a family connection but wants to pursue it a bit further.
Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) received an email from Ernie and Gloria SILVA telling her about the Google translator. They say it's better than Bablefish!
Rick and Pat COPPOLA told the chapter that Pat plans to write a letter to Rick's di Filippo relatives in S. SALVATORE TELESINO. They met them while visiting there. They're hoping the di Filippo's can help make a connection to Sherry PACELLI Haddox's family because there are several indications they may be related. The most recent clue is that Rick's sister's god-father was Sherry's great-uncle, Antimo PACELLI. Rick's grandfather, Libero COPPOLA and Sherry's grandfather, Dionisio PACELLI, were born the same year (1879) and on the same street in S. SALVATORE TELESINO, BENEVENTO. They both immigrated to New York in 1899.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30pm. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, May 26th, at 6:30pm at Lin & Bill's guest house.
