Submitted by: Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the monthly meeting on August 22nd with 9 people in attendance. Lin, her husband Bill, and her mother, Dorothy MANGO ONOFRIO Lippincott will be visiting cousins in Connecticut and will have a reunion of REINZO, MANGO and FARINA descendents as well as ONOFRIO and RUBANO descendents.
Bill Brinkman told a story of when crooner Perry Como visited his submarine, USS Sea Poacher, when they were stationed in Guantanamo Naval Station, Cuba, in 1962 during the Cuban Missile crisis.
Don VILLONI and his wife Shirley recently returned from a wonderful trip to Italy where they visited with his cousins, Pietro and Norma VILLONI Spiller who live in Torino. They have two daughters, Cristiana and Daniella. Cristiana is married to a Marco CUNIBERTI. Marco took a day off work and drove Don, Shirley and Norma all over Torino.
Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) is continuing to extract morti records from 1809 on. He is currently viewing 1866 records and his current record count is at just over
900 morti records extracted and recorded in the access data base.
Joe reported that, in the latest records (1866), there has appeared some very welcome and unexpected information. Along with the parents of the deceased, the relationship of the witnesses to the deceased has appeared, along with the name of the witness' father. This information facilitates going back several generations as well as finding contemporary lines that are related but with different names.
Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) received a post card from the FHC notifying her that her film had arrived there for viewing.
Jeanie received help on the Galveston Ship Records from Marilyn MANISCALCO Henley, a former member of our POINT Chapter, and her daughter, Shelly H. Kelly.
The MARSALIA family reunion is scheduled for September 29th in Mentz, Texas which is a small community outside of Columbus, Texas.
Jack and Peg MALATESTA told the group that they are planning to lease an apartment or house in southern Italy, probably in Calabria, in January so they can look for a place to buy. They would like to spend several months a year in Italy.
Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883) happily reported that she had received her letter from the Houston Consulate informing her that her Italian citizenship has been finalized.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45pm. The next meeting will be on September 26th at 6:30pm at Merrill Gardens in Round Rock.
