POINTers IN PERSON Minutes
Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin
Submitted by: Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883)
This month we broke with tradition and met at Joe MELOMO'S wonderful Italian restaurant, Andiamo Ristorante. After we enjoyed a delicious meal
Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) opened the meeting with 19 present.
Joe reported that he is continuing to extract death records from 1809 to 1900 and is currently viewing 1893 records. He is reaching 3000 records extracted and just
in excess of 2000 recorded in the Morti Data Base. The Nati Data Base contains 4217 records and the Marriage Data Base has 1383 records. He had just completed
the year 1892 that contained about 350 reported deaths. This number is approximately the norm that he has been experiencing. The fruits of his labor are continuing
to be useful. More often than not, he is able to link the data bases together to correct/confirm information from one to the other.
Joe was recently contacted by Tania DeJohn regarding obtaining her dual citizenship as well as her childrens' based upon her husband's (which he already has). Joe
said he had a "senior moment" and had forgotten that he had already communicated with her on the dual citizenship issue in the past. They first met at the 2000
POINT Conference that PIP Chapter #10 hosted here in Austin.
Joe received a surprise phone call from a part of his New Jersey PIZZOLATO clan. In attendance were several 1st cousins and two 2nd cousins. The highlight of the
call was a conversation he had with his 89 year old cousin Rossario PIZZOLATO who is the son of his grandmother's oldest brother and the senior cousin of his family.
Joe can remember being 11 years old and visiting with Rossario and his family just after Rossario returned from WWII. He served in the European Theater and returned
with souvenirs from his adventures. The prize was a German 9mm Luger pistol which Joe was allowed to handle. He said it's funny how some memories stick with you
through all the years.
Jeanie MARSALIA (4251) was saddened by the death of her 1st cousin, Shirley MARSALIA Wilkerson. She passed away on August 11, 2009. She was the first grandchild born in the MARSALIA family.
Don and Shirley VILLONI told us about their recent trip to Italy. They rented a house in REGGIO CALABRIA with their son and daughter-in-law and had a wonderful time. After spending two weeks there Don and Shirley went to Palermo, Sicily to do research. They were successful and gleaned a lot of interesting formation.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45pm. Our next meeting will be on September 23rd at 6:30pm at Horizon Bay located at 8005 Cornerwood in Austin, Texas.
