Submitted by: Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388)
Chapter #10 of P.O.I.N.T. met at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 22 August in the guest home of Bill and Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) with 8 present.
Jeanie Marsalia (#4251) and Betty TOMASELLI Glaser (#5297) have booked a tour of Italy for the Spring of 2013. They will visit Rome, Florence, Venice, Sorento, Isle of Capri, and Pompeii. This will be Betty's first trip to Italy, and the excitement level is high. Jeanie passed around pictures of the Texas Embassy in London, England, that she received from her son, Shane Mahon, who is currently working in London. The Republic of Texas maintained an embassy there from 1842 to 1846. There is a plaque marking the site of the legation on the building located at 3 St. James Street near St. James Palace in London.
Betty TOMASELLI Glaser (#5297) has found her Grandmother Brigida DeLUISE's brother, Guiseppe DeLuise, born 12 January 1884 in Benevento, died 16 November 1988 in Bronx, NY at 104 years of age ! He married Philomena FALCONE, 29, born 26 August 1910, who died April 1983. They had 4 children, Louis, 1928-2009, Pasquale Dominick, 1929-1995, Daniel born 1931, and Theresa, born 1932. Betty has been unable to contact Daniel or Theresa thus far.
Scott Patrick (#4819) said that since returning from his ancestral trip to Sweden, he has been going through the 1940 census and is finding a few minor things. Scott has also ordered 9 films from FHC, covering 1809 to 1865 for another of his ancestral towns, PIETRA PERTOSA (PZ BA), with the hope of finding the death records for two of his 4th-great grandparents, Francesco Saverio GARAGUSO and Maria Gaitana BELSANO.
Stace and Dee SMARELLI found some additional information in the Catasto Onciario 1755 for SMARELLI. It lists Smarelli (3) : SMAREZZI (1), STICCA (6) and TUCCI (9). He also found an ALIOSO SMARELLI in the current phone directory of PESCARA, Cheti, Italy. He found the names SALCE, RISCHITELLI and VARRASSI, somehow associated with the family name. This came up when EZIO SMARELLI and FRANCESDA SALCE visited VINCENT VARRASI in New Jersey in 2000. Stace also found out that there are a lot of Smarrellis in Australia. Chapter #10 members strongly recommended using the LDS for reference, so he will be contacting his neighbor who is a member of the Mormon stake here in Austin, to meet with him and do more research.
Next meeting : 26 September 2012
