Marilyn Maniscalco Henley (#1653)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the monthly POINTers IN PERSON meeting on Wed, Feb 19, 1997 at 6:30 pm at Bank One, Round Rock, Tx with 15 members and spouses attending. She read thank you notes from participants at the Jan 25 Italian Research Workshop and a note from Dr Tom Militello. She introduced our new members: Marge LENTRICHIA, Don VILLONI and Henry and Zina VERSAGGI Graalfs. Marge and Don had attended the workshop and Zina learned about the group from the Family History Center. Lin passed out POINT/POINTers membership brochures she received from Dr Tom.
Marilyn MANISCALCO Henley showed a passenger ship record of her grandmother's sister and her husband, ANGELA MESSINA and SILVESTRO MONTALBANO and the World War I Application for her grandfather, FRANK ALFANO and his brother Lawrence ALFANO, then of Robertson Co, Tx. She is (attempting to) read Census Records from 1714 from Poggioreale, Sicily of several LORIA's and Paolo APICELLA and 1747-8 from Alia,Sicily of Filippo VALENZIA. Also, she has new baptism records from Alia for Scaccia, L'Andolina, and Martino family members.
She is corresponding with her new cousin (found through the workshop), Johnny GRIZZAFFI of Bryan, TX.. He sent his family information on the GRIZZAFFI'S and CARRABBA's, from CORLEONE, SICILY. She passed around the microfilm rental book from the FHC that she compiles weekly.
Sharen APPINO Nichols (#2649) is in contact with Antonio Cordero of Castellamo,Torino, Italy regarding the Appino name. She received obits for her grandparents from the funeral home in Frontenac Kansas. The obits named her grandmother's father Joseph RESTALDO and her grandfather's brother Lawrence APPINO living in Los Angeles in 1949.
Frank and Bert Henry (IANNARINO) are communicating by e-mail with a family friend, Carla MO who teaches in her hometown near Milan Italy. She is translating letters for them to Italian and the responses back to English. Their new e-mail address is: W5VWYCflash.net
Tony ABBATTISTA (#2641)has added eight new names from birth records received from Corato, Bari, Italy. They are: PIARULLI, DiTOMASO, LAMARCA, SISTO, CATERINA, TATOLI, ARDITO, D'ORIA. After five months, he received his grandfather's Social Security application (SS5) of Anthony Abbattista (from New York).
Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) received a negative search response for a passenger ship from the National Archives regarding his grandfather PIZZOLATO. He has not received a response from the letter to Putignano, Bari in which he sent lira. He is still trying to determine which town in Trapani Province the Pizzolato's immigrated from. He showed a new book he received called the American Naturalization Processes and Procedures 1790-1985.
New member Marge LENTRICHIA read us the names she is researching, all from Morolo, Italy: LENTRICHIA, MONTI, POMPI, and TENNENINI. She is just beginning her searching.
Virginia MACRI Gerrick (#2730) found her father's name on the 1910 Connecticut census, but cannot find her mother's family, which should be on the same street. Other names Virginia is searching are: DeCERBO, DiANGELIS, and DiLELLA
New member Don VILLONI told how he started researching about two years ago by asking questions of family members. He is now trying to validate this verbal information and get more information from other sources. His research includes the names: ALONGI, BARONE, CERUTI, CIMORELL,DiDOMENICO, VILLONI, from Teremini Imerese, Palermo, Sicily. Don uses the PAF program. Bill Brinkman explained how to submit PAF files to the Mormon Ancestry Files.
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman told our new members how she learned that the story of her grandfather's jumping ship was confirmed by older family members in Connecticut. Her husband, Bill showed the new records found on microfilm for Caserta, Capua, Italy giving the following new surnames: CICCONE, diBENEDETTO,FUSCO, RICCIARDI.
New member Zina VERSAGGI Graalfs gave her surnames: VERSAGGI and LITRICO from Augusta, Siracusa, Sicily and GENTILE and PATIRI in Reitano, Messina, Sicily. She is just beginning her research at the Family History Center. Her e-mail address is: graalfs@flash.net
