POINTers IN PERSON Minutes
Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin
Submitted by: Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the monthly meeting on July 25th with 8 people in attendance.
Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) went to the FHC to view a film attempting to find documents for her great grandparents. She found two death certificates
with the right names of her grandmother's parents however, the dates of death were before her grandmother's brother was born so these documents
could not be theirs.
Jeanie is also researching her mother's grandmother, Ann Tatters Parker, and found information that had been mailed to her in 1999 from a relative. She is
attempting to find ship records for the Port of Galveston, Texas for 1879 when her great-grandmother arrived there from England. She emailed NARA in
Fort Worth, Texas and received a reply informing her that Galveston ship records after 1873 and before 1896 have never been located. She was also told
to contact the Texas Seaport Museum website that offers a free database of Galveston passenger arrivals. Their website is:
www.tsm-elissa.org. According to this website, a few lists exist for the years 1871 to 1894.
Jeanie found a death certificate for her great aunt in the SSDI at the World Vital Records.com website. It also gave her place of burial and showed a map
of the location at the cemetery.
Jeanie is planning a trip to Italy next year with her son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Catherine Mahon, and Catherine's mother.
Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) is continuing to extract morti records from 1809 on. He is currently viewing 1864 records. His current record count is at just over 800 morti records extracted and recorded in his access data base. Joe has discovered more mistakes. For example, according to the death record of a 1.5 year old baby, Michael PUGLIESE, it states "figlio di Vincenzo PUGLIESE" but, where it reports the information on Vincenzo, instead of Vincenzo, it has "Michael". And, where it reports the ID of the deceased, it has Vincenzo instead of Michael! Using his access data base, Joe was able to confirm the above information.
Sherry (PACELLI) Haddox (#4883) reported that she sent all the required documents with apostilles to obtain dual citizenship to the Houston
consulate on July 10th. She is waiting to hear from them that she is officially an Italian citizen!
Sherry is trying to help her cousin, Todd Capron, find his birth mother. Sherry's aunt and uncle, Sally and Frank Capron (the name was changed from
Caproni), adopted Todd on October 19, 1964 when he was six years old, from an orphanage in Rome. He was born in Reggio Calabria, Italy on
July 1, 1958. His birth name is ULDERICO MONDINI. Todd longs to find his birth mother and, hopefully, meet other blood relatives.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30pm. Our next meeting will be on August 22nd at 6:30pm at Merrill Gardens in Round Rock.
