Lin Onofrio Brinkman opened the meeting Wed, July 24, 1996 with 13 members present. She passed around her delicious homemade biscotti.
Bill Brinkman, area genealogy instructor, told about various genealogy computer programs, emphasizing their conveniences. He uses PAF (Personal Ancestory File) from the Family History Center. He emhasized that POINTer Magazine can help in research other than Italian, and he urged all members to subscirbe.
Lin Onofrio Brinkman reported that a personal check should not be sent as payment to the Italian Genealogy & Heraldary Institute. She welcomed Joe Wood, who was referred from the meeting notice on PIE. He is researching the names Lencioni, Franceschi and Santori from Lucca Italy.
Tony Abbattista talked about sending a Rausch International draft with his letter to Italy. He asked about the possibility of our group having a page on the Web. He also wanted to know if POINTer has a page that the PIP group can link to.
Joe Mastrangelo proudly passed around a copy of his grandfather’s Naturalization Record that he had recently received. He also passed around a list of Italian web sites and Italian information that can be ordered that had come over PIE. He told about two Italian movies showing Aug 6 at UT: Dialogues with Leuco and The Moon and the Bonfires.
Marilyn Maniscalco Henley told about video taping an interview with two aunts in Houston in June. She passed out an article from La Voce Italiana (Houston Italian Federation), July-Aug issue 1996 about Tracing Your Italian Roots. She suggested that since the FHL does not keep a master book of rented film, each member bring a list of their current rented film in case another member is interested in reading that film.
