Marilyn MANISCALCO Henley (# 1653)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (# 1388) opened the monthly POINTers In Person
meeting at 6:30 pm on June 27, 2001 at the Round Rock Library with 26 members
attending. Lin talked about the next POINTer Conference to be held Oct
11 &
12 in Salt Lake City. About 10 of the attending members indicated that
they were interested in going.
Marilyn MANISCALCO Henley (# 1653) told how in Helsinki, Finland, where it was cool & rainy during the 20 hours of daylight, reindeer is served like our beef. She and her husband Arthur spent a week at an engineering conference. Marilyn passed out flyers for the August 18 Austin Genealogical Society Seminar.
Tony ABBATTISTA (# 2641) has been busy with work and family and is just returning to his Bari research.
Gloria GAMBACCINI SILVA passed around her certificate of Registration for the Immigrant Wall of Honor for Pauldie John GAMBACCINI. She also showed a passenger list with his first name listed as Ipollito.
Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) also had a Wall of Honor certificate for her grandfather Giuseppe MARSAGLIA.
Sheila BAYHA Dugosh (#4365) is headed to Virginia to visit family.
Louis and Kay SCOPEL passed around their group photo as they told us about their wonderful two week tour of Italy with Globus. The maiden name of the mother of one of their tour guides turned out to be Scopel. They celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary during the trip.
Marie CAMPAGNA Anderson and her daughter Kathy Nichols sent a request to Minnesota for a death certificate for Andrew P. Anderson. They are planning to search microfilm records of Montemaggiore Belsito for MARGAVIO records.
Jamie CANNONE and Di Frei had the most exciting news. They are officially engaged. Di showed off her sapphire ring. They are also building a house in Georgetown and passed around the plans. Jamie had been busy on the Ellis Island web search; he showed what the various reports looked like of his great grandparents VESCO and OTTINE.
Laurie GUGINO Riester (# 3878), told us more about her good fortune
at sending a letter to the wrong Carla GUGINO. In addition to receiving
copies of a family tree with more information than she already had, she
received photos of the three Gugino brothers, one of whom is her great
great grandfather, and their families. She verified the new information
with the
Valledolmo microfilm. Her new surnames are PRIVITERA, MUSCATO and ESPOSTA.
She is interested in learning more about the name Esposta, which often
means that the child was a foundling. Laurie and her husband and daughter
are
traveling to Maui soon and Laurie will head back to Italy on August
31.
Virginia MACRI Gerick (#2730) said that a cousin is waiting for a response to a letter he wrote to the remaining family member on her father''s side asking about any old family records.
Dorothy MANGO Lippincott announced that she is ready to return to Italy anytime. Many agreed with her.
Don VILLONI (#3985) is planning to go to Cleveland if a VILLONI reunion is planned. He is having difficulty getting responses from relatives he has asked for copies of birth/death/marriage records. Don is also searching for others with the surnames BARONE, RIZZO and VILLONI.
Bill Brinkman told about the newly released CD''s of the 1880 U.S. Federal Census by the LDS Church. Since the records are searchable on any name in a household, he was able to find a Brinkman family he had not been able to locate. He used the copy at the FHC; Marilyn mentioned that they can also be purchased from the LDS at a cost of $49 and contains 56 CD''s. She also has found several families that she had been unable to locate previously.
Bill and Ursula PASSAFUMA Rader mentioned that a cousin recently passed away in Houston. Bill located the cemetery in Iowa for his grandfather Lawrence Burns. He also received an email from someone who has information about his great grandparents from Clearfield Co, PA.
Joe and Marie MASTRANGELO (# 2614) announced that their kitchen remodeling is complete. Joe talked about how to use the Ellis Island Search site.
Joyce TIANELLO Snodgrass announced that she has finally made the no boil lasagna dish. She has a videotape of the television show "Holy Cleveland" about the Cleveland churches. She is going to Ohio in August.
Pat OXLEY (# 3713) has taken up scrapbooking and started with photos of her parents. She is signed up to take the online Traveler''s Italian course offered by Barnes & Noble.
Carol MAINA Roam has written to a POINT member who is researching the
same surnames of MARCHISIO and BOGGIO from the same town of Candia. She
is hoping for a connection. She also found that the FHC has microfilm records
for the town of Settimo Rottaro for 1573-1899 and Candia from 1728-1899
(what a break!)
Angelo GATTOZZI announced that his family has moved to Austin from Ohio.
Lin announced that the Italian Club of Austin has planned a Columbus Festa on Saturday, October 21, from 11 am -- 8 pm at the Fiesta Gardens. In previous years, the event was for club members only, but this year. tickets will be sold to the general public. Only 500 tickets will be sold. Lin is in charge of Desserts and is looking for help in the booth.
Next meeting is a potluck luncheon on Saturday, July 21, beginning at 1 pm at the Round Rock Library in the large meeting room.
