Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin
Submitted by: Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened our monthly meeting on June 27th with 11 people in attendance, including one guest.
Our guest, Anita Powell, is researching Michele Paggi from Ravello, Piedmont, Italy.
Rocco and Georgia ARANCIO shared that they had acquired his grandparents' marriage certificate. It verified that his grandfather (Rocco) was an orphan. His wife's name was Rosa.
Scott Patrick (#4819) reported that he heard back from Calvary Cemetery in Queens, New York. It appears that in addition to his great-grandmother, Giovanna (Johanna) GARAGUSI MOTTO and one of her sons, Daniel MOTTO, being buried there, Giovanna's oldest brother, Vincenzo GARAGUSI, his wife, Arcangiolina (Lina) PICERNI GARAGUSI, and their son, Julius Garagusi, are also buried there. Additionally a half-sister of Giovanna, Amalia MARONE GALGANO, is buried there. Giovanna's oldest child, another son named Daniel, is buried in the free-ground section of the cemetery. Scott's inquiry into whether or not his great-great-grandmother, Carmela MANZI GARAGUSI, and her final child, Julius GARAGUSI, were also buried there came back as not having been found in the time period Scott had given as their death dates. Scott feels they should be buried there since both of their death certificates state Calvary as their burial place. Scott hopes to follow up on this mystery. Scott also received a picture from a cousin of another of Giovanna's sisters, Adelaide GARAGUSI MONACO. This gives Scott pictures of three of the nine children of Giuliano and Carmela GARAGUSI. He is hoping to acquire more.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30pm. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, July 25th, at 6:30pm at Merrill Gardens in Round Rock.
