June 25, 2008 Meeting Minutes

    POINTers IN PERSON Minutes
    Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin

Submitted by: Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883)

Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the monthly meeting on June 25th with 9 present, including one visitor, Charles CAMPISE, who is researching CAMPISE, CANGELOSI, SCARDINO, PALASOTA and BRANNA.
Lin and Bill showed many pictures of their new grandson, Aden, and their two year old granddaughter, Emma.
Lin's mother, Dorothy MANGO Lippincott was also at the meeting. It was her birthday so Lin brought a cake for a little celebration.

Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) is continuing to extract death records from 1809 and is currently viewing and extracting information recorded in 1875.
Patrizia Raspante wrote to Joe last month with questions regarding his Access Data Base specifics so he generated several documents and forwarded them on to her along with a general statement of purpose and methodology. Included are the following:

    • Purpose and Procedure
    • Birth record information recorded
    • Marriage record information recorded
    • Death Record information recorded

Joe reported that during the past month someone forwarded to PIE a website that discussed the topic "WITH U.S. IN SLUMP, DUAL CITIZENSHIP IN EU COUNTRIES ATTRACTS AMERICANS". He said it was interesting reading and also addressed other countries where dual citizenship is available. The article was posted on 6/9/08.
Joe also told how Mike MADDI in Houston provided a nice concise explanation of DNA to the folks on PIE. His article is relatively brief and provides an understandable explanation of expectations from the various tests available.

Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) and her son, Shane Mahon, went to Italy from May 28th through June 7th. They visited Milano, Bologna, Firenze and Torino. While in Torino they drove to the town of MONASTERO DI LANZO where Jeanie's grandparents were born and CASELLE TORINESE where they were married in a church named Santa Maria. However, there were two churches both named Santa Maria so she did not know which one they were married in. At the end of their journey, Jeanie and Shane parted ways at the airport in Milan as he flew to Brussels, Belgium where he has accepted a job and will be moving there on July 6th. Jeanie's next trip will be to Belgium and hopefully to Italy with Shane and her daughter-in-law to see the Italian coastline on the drive to Rome.
Jeanie now has the names of her great-great-great grandparents which are Michelangelo MARSAGLIA, Cristina BARRA BAROT, Michele MARCHETTO and Domenica MACHETTA. She has also learned that her grandmother's brother, Luigi PATTINI MARCHETTI was adopted by Domenica MARCHETTI.
Jeanie mailed letters to people with the MARSAGLIA surname in Torino to see if they could possibly be related to her.

Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883) passed around pictures of her twin granddaughters, Angelina and Isabella, and their two year old brother, Christian.
She reported that she had received information from Bob Pedersen who is doing research on her ancestors from Greci, Italy where her grandmother was from. Bob's wife, Dena, is a distant cousin of Sherry's.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30pm. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, July 23rd, at 6:30pm at Merrill Gardens in Round Rock.
