Central Texas Chapter #10 of POINT met on 26 June 2013 at the home of Bill and Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman [ #1388 ] with 14 present.
Guest Barbara ST GEORGE is researching Guiseppe SANGIORGI in Valledolmo, Sicily, Italy. He was born 20 Sept. or Oct. 1886 and married Antoniette SALATINA.
Jeanie MARSALIA [ # 4251 ] told us the QVC shopping channel broadcast
from the Villa Mosconi Bertani in Arbizzano Di Negrar near Verona in
Northern Italy. They do a remote jewelry show each year from Italy. The
villa is a neoclassical style built in 1753 which fell into disrepair
and was purchased by the Bertani family in 1953. It includes 54 acres
of vineyards for winemaking which it also did when built originally.
They now produce two wines.
Jeanie's son, Shane Mahon, sent her a picture of himself on a beach in
Liguria, Italy on 25 June.
Stace SMARELLI said he is using Betty TOMASELLI Glaser's recipe for Limoncello, and thinks it will be ready for the 24 July meeting !
Sherry PACELLI Haddox is excited to report that her distant cousin from Rome, Alessandra GESUALDI, her husband, Matteo MOTTOLA, and their two daughters, Sara and Sofia, are coming to visit Austin after Christmas, until the first week in January 2014.
Betty TOMASELLI Glaser [ #5297 ] has found a total of 184 surnames to
date, with 1019 names in her family tree.
New names in the ONOFRIO line: CACCIOPPOLI, CASANOVA, De FILLIPO, FAZZINO, FRANCO, FRANCINI,
GUARDIANO, LUPONE, NUZZO, SIRACO, and VALENTINE [ on both sides].
On the TOMASELLI side: CARRANO, CRETELLA, CURRIERI, De SIMONE,
IANNCONA, MACCIOCCA, MATURO, PAGLIOCA, PELLIGRINO , STORLIZZI,
TERRANOVA, TORTORA, and VERMIGLIO.
Cathy VITALE told us she sent a letter to the Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Commune di Carlentini in July 2011, requesting verification of her grandfather Angelo Vitale's birth. In January 2013 she received a Certifacto di Nascita for him, born 18 November 1894 in the City of Carlentini, Sicily. Cathy thanked the group for their help and tips on contacting the Italian Consulate in Houston. She is planning a trip to Sicily in July and will visit Carlentini.
