Submitted by: Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the monthly meeting of POINTers in Person, Chapter #10 - Austin/Central Texas on
May 15th at 1:00 PM at the Round Rock Library with 21 people in attendance. After a brief meeting we all enjoyed a delicious
potluck lunch.
Lin donated an espresso machine for a drawing. Joe MASTRANGELO was the lucky winner! His name was
drawn by baby Brianna CANNONE.
Lin informed us that new member, Sally Copeland Baram, is researching OTTATI, DeSANTIS, AND CAPUTO from the Bari area.
Sherry PACELLI Haddox received her great-grandfather's Death Certificate (Antonio PACELLI) from New York City. He was buried at Calvary Cemetery and she has ordered the interment list from the cemetery in hopes that it may contain information that will help with her research. Sherry and her daughter, Shannon Livengood, went to the Italian Chalk Art Festival and saw many lovely pictures.
Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) told us that her son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Catherine Mahon, are going to Rome and will be there from June 3rd through June 10th. When they leave Rome they will go to Florence where they will attend motorcycle races. Shane is an avid fan and races here on the local level.
Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) informed us that he has upgraded to Family Tree Maker 11.0. He recently used the "Export of PDF"
function and it worked great. He copied the file to a diskette and took it to Kinko's to be printed. He said "No more
cut and paste!!" Joe suggested that it's better to turn off the background color for the chart. He said that it looks better with black on
white and also uses much less ink.
Joe is continuing to extract the MASTRANGELO & PUGLIESE birth records from PUTIGNANO. He has reached 1882 (he began at 1809)
. He uncovered another unknown great-aunt on his paternal/maternal side. He has
almost 2900 records at this time and said his access data base is beginning to bulge!
Joe and his wife, Marie, attended the Italian Chalk Art Festival at Central Market and saw many talented artists and some
beautiful pictures.
Joe has completed and submitted the Power Point presentation for the POINT 2004 Convention in Kansas City.
There will be two one hour sessions which will cover the basic Italian Civil Records including background, content, and
accessing the records. Joe will answer questions after each session.
Joe told us that he has now used both Black and Color cartridges purchased from the Lasermonks.com site. He highly
recommends them and said they are CHEAP!
Joe got some very informative information regarding the mortality of CD's and DVD's via his youngest daughter, Helen.
The information was distributed to the State PUC work force and he recommended we check out the following website:
www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/ptech/05/06/disc.rot.ap/index.html
Gloria GAMBACCINI Silva (#4858) told us that her nephew will be moving to Italy in October and will buy a house or apartment there.
Our next meeting will be at the Round Rock Library on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 from 6:30 PM to 8:55 PM.
