Former residents, Gloria and Ernie SILVA (#4858), visited from the Houston area and spoke about the Hospitality Club which hosts visitors from other nations in each others' homes to share our culture and learn about other cultures. They recommended the website http://www.hospitalityclub.org
Carol MAINA Roam (#4623) reported that she had a wonderful time during her visit last month to Italy. She was fortunate to meet people from her
ancestral town of Lenna that aided her in gaining access to the church records. In her ancestral town of Livorno Ferraris, she was hosted by two of her
third cousins whose families prepared traditional Piemontesi courses.
Carol had been looking for years for a 400 page book on the civil and religious history of Settimo Rottaro(TO). Since the book
was written in 1929 by the local priest, Carol's cousin from Livorno Ferraris offered to contact the Settimo Rottaro church in order to locate a copy. On
her way to the church, she stopped to talk with a woman working on her farm. The woman said that a friend of hers, upon learning that there was only one
copy of the book, had received permission to copy it onto a CD. This woman had a copy of the CD! The book dates from the Lombard conquest in 564 AD
and Carol is hoping to translate it in the near future.
As our cost has risen for room rental at the library, we will be holding a garage sale at Warren and Eugenia ASSIABENE Luken's ~ pizza to be included! The date will be announced at our next meeting.
Everyone enjoyed the delicious potluck and the fellowship of our group.
Our next meeting will be at the Round Rock Library on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 from 6:30 PM to 8:55 PM.
