May 28, 2008 Meeting Minutes

    POINTers IN PERSON Minutes
    Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin

Submitted by: Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883)

Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the monthly meeting with 7 present.
Lin reported she got quick service from Joe DeSimone, whose ad she read in POINTers. He was able to find two new names, CARLO and BROCCOLI from PIETRAROIA, BENEVENTO. Lin says, "sometimes it pays to quit hitting your head against the wall and hire an expert!"

Joe Mastrangelo (#2614) is continuing to extract death records from 1809 on and is currently viewing 1874 records.
Joe received documentation regarding the election in April from the "Committee For Italians Abroad" and his Ballot to vote in the election. He also received a newsletter from Augusto Sorriso, a biography of Vincenzo Arcobelli and information from Salvatore Ferrigno - all of which was obviously in Italian and he had to translate everything before he could understand what they were about. It was an interesting task! Joe did vote! To assist him in this process, he did a Google search on the Italian Political Parties. There were 2 primary sites that he focused on and they were helpful in identifying the history of the political parties in Italy and also their main areas of efforts. The first was located at :

      http://nationsencyclopedia.com/Europe/Italy-POLITICAL-PRTIES.html http://miving2italy2.blogspot.com/2006/02/info-on-political-parties-in-italy.html

He recently came across a document that speaks to the "FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS IN ITALY" Joe believes it was part of a discussion on PIE on the subject of terminology used in Italy vs. here in the US, when referring to relatives. They are different. Included is a chart, and also a document that describes the words used in the Italian chart.
While going thru the Nov-Dec 2006 issue of F&L PRIMO, Joe ran across a couple of articles on Immigration. One dealt with "HISTORY OF IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION LEGAL DOCUMENTS", and the second, entitled "IMMIGRATION SHIPS: 1880 TO 1920" listed the names of the ships most Italian immigrants sailed on to America. Both of these documents provided some very useful information.
Lastly, there was an article referencing PRIMO'S GUIDE TO GENEALOGICAL SERVICE . It lists a number of vendors, with a description of their areas of expertise, and services provided.

Don VILLONI is the new president of the Williamson County Genealogical Society and he invited everyone to the June 12th meeting at the Round Rock Library at 7:30pm. Emily Croom will be the speaker. Don distributed copies of information about local Family History Centers. He also said he and his wife, Shirley, would be traveling to Italy this summer and while there will be attending the wedding of a relative in Latina.

Gerry and Sherry PACELLI Haddox (4883) are the very proud grandparents of twin girls born on May 22nd in Austin, Texas. Their names are Angelina Faith and Isabella Grace Livengood. Their parents are Shannon and Greg Livengood.

The next meeting is June 25th at Merrill Gardens.
