Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin
Submitted by: Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the meeting on May 26th with 15 present.
Lin reminded members and guests that we have a library with many books
on Italian genealogy as well as cultural tomes.
She told about the Con' Olio Oils & Vinegars in Austin, which offers samples of more than
40 different varieties of olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and speciality oils.
Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) watched on television the Pope's visit in Turin to bless and view the Shrould of Turin on 2 May in the Church of St. Charles in Turin, Italy. When she was there two years ago, she took a picture of the same area and of the Church in St. Charles Square, not realizing it was where the Shroud is kept and publicily viewed, only every ten years.
Guest Nick D'ALLESSIO is researching the IATALESE family line ( maternal grandmother 4 Nov 1904) in Foiano in Val Fortore, Benevento, Italy. He is currently working with microfilm of the public records at the LDS Family History Center. However, there is a 60-year gap which needs to be filled in to connect the lines. The next step is to write and request a family report.
Betty TOMMASELLI Glaser ordered the 1897 passenger list from LDS,
checking on her Grandfather, Luciano Tommaselli.
She ordered birth records for Grandmother Brigida De Luise ( 1866-1894 ) from Solofra,
Italy. She has learned that Brigida arrived at Ellis Island from Napoli
on 6 July, 1905 on the ship, "Sicilia". She is listed as 21 years and
single, residing at "Solofrez", traveling to live with her brother,
Biagio. She paid her way and had $3.00 left. On the 1910 New Haven, CT
census, Luciano and Brigida are married for 2 years, and have a
daughter, Rosa, 1 1/2. In the 1920 New Haven, CT census, Luciano and
Brigida have 4 children, Rosa, Eugene, William and Armond ( Edmond ),
all now deceased.
Betty has sent for Military Personnel Records for her father, William
Joseph Tommaselli. She was informed that many records from 1912-1959
were destroyed in a fire in July 1973.
They sent a form to fill out more information so they can check further.
Becky Broadbent is researching MANFREDI. She is Director of the Round Rock, TX Family History Center, gave us research tips.
The next meeting will be June 23rd at 6:30pm at The Brinkman Guest House.
