POINTers IN PERSON Minutes
Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin
Submitted by: Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) called the meeting of POINT Chapter #10 to
order with 10 present.
She told about the Italian Cultural Association
of Austin's presentation of the celebration of 150 years of Italian
music, with Dr. Roberto Porroni of Italy on classical guitar,
accompanied by Luigi Arciuli, also from Italy, on flute. They played
music from the 1800s, including works by Paganini, Anonimi, Mazzini,
Carulli, Tosti, Morricone and Rota. They were enthusiastically received
in the intimate setting at the All Saints' Episcopal Church at the
University of Texas. Bringing them to Austin was a coup!
Lin also told about the search by a friend on Ancestry.com. She was
researching her paternal grandfather who had abandoned his family in
1938, but knew little more than his name, his upbringing in Georgia,
and his 1954 death in Arkansas. She received an email from a woman who
read the name, saying she believed this man was also her grandfather
who had also left her family. Lin's friend, Michelle, emailed back,
including her name, plus city and State. Five minutes later, the phone
rang. It was her next-door-neighbor, explaining that Michelle had been
communicating with the neighbor's Mother! These two have been living
next door for seven years, and are first cousins, once-removed! Now
the family has found living relatives, through genealogy research.
Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) visited her son, Shane Mahon and wife Catherine in the Netherlands. They visited the Anne Frank House and the Rembrandt Museum in Amsterdam, and traveled to Bruges and Brussels in Belgium, and right inside the border in Germany. Jeanie shared photos and Belgium candy with the Chapter.
Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) continues to search for the missing Putignano Civil Records, circa approximately 1810 - 1823. He has been unsuccessful with the LDS records, so is trying the Church records again. He was happy to receive a letter from the Rev. Romanazzi who is attrached to the Mother Church in Putignano, responding to Joe's letter of 10 Nov. 2010. Fr. Romanazzi identified no less than 21 new individuals, including 3 marriages, from Joe's family, going back 3 generations., Joe is now back into the late 1600s. After so many generations of Francescos and Angelos, Joe's 7th ggf's name is Vito, and his 8th ggf is Giovanni. New clues!
Scott Patrick (#4819) has received two new contacts. The first was through Ancestry.com, and was on the name GALGANO, but turned out not to be connected. The other was an email from soneone who saw our Chapter's website. This was on the name CAFARELLA and also turned out not to be connected, but the person also mentioned they saw someone in the Chapter minutes with the name PACELLI. They gave the town, and it turned out to be the same as where the family of member Sherry PACELLI Haddox came from. So Scott is going to put the two in contact with each other.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, 22 June 2010.
